Shaky Ground

After reading the first few chapters of Shaky Ground, it got me thinking about the issues at hand in the 1960s and the issues at hand today.  It seems that in the book has a really good focus on the feminist movement.  I think that not many people in today's world consider the feminist movement to be a big deal.  Not many people mention it.

The book states that "men and women are polar opposites" (Echols, 119).  I think that this statement is true in some ways and false in other ways.  Women and men can be completely different as far as emotional and physical stability goes.  Yet, they can be similar in the same ways.  Women tend to be the more emotional ones, while men tend to be the more physical ones.

But, after reading the post written by Mark Frakes, I began to think a little differently about the "norm" with women and men.  Mark said that it seems to be that people think that all men only want sex and that everything that they do is centered at that goal.  I disagree with that statement because some men have different characteristics that make them different from other men.  Some guys might be focusing mainly on sex while others are focusing mainly on emotional relationships.

Overall, I like the chapters that I have read so far

  1. Excellent! So what are these differences in behavior that you have observed, between men and women, between some men and other men, with respect to sex--expectations, ideals, motivations? As a woman who has/will have brothers, guy friends, and boyfriends, what do you expect? What would you like to see?
